Capcom Optimizes Monster Hunter Wilds, May Reduce GPU Requirements
Capcom Improving Monster Hunter Wilds’ Performance Ahead of Launch
Plans to Lower GPU Requirements for PC
Capcom is diligently working to enhance the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds before its much-anticipated launch. The game's German Twitter (X) account announced on January 19, 2025, that they are focusing on improving gameplay smoothness.
In a recent video shared by Monster Hunter Germany, viewers can see a hunter engaging in a battle with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern. This footage showcases the updated "Prioritize Framerate" mode for PS5, which boosts the frame rate by slightly reducing graphical quality.
The announcement also revealed that similar performance enhancements are being applied to the PC version of the game, with a specific focus on lowering the GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the post stated.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds are set at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Should Capcom succeed in reducing these requirements, the game could become playable on lower or mid-tier GPUs, broadening its accessibility to a wider audience.
Additionally, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool that will help players determine the optimal settings for their systems or assess whether their PC can handle the game. This move could alleviate concerns about needing to upgrade hardware, especially if GPU requirements are successfully lowered.

Issues in the First Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta
During the first open beta test of Monster Hunter Wilds, held between October and November 2024, players encountered significant performance issues. Steam users reported seeing low-poly NPCs and monsters, reminiscent of PS1-era graphics, which detracted from the visual experience.
Apart from the unsettling pixelated character models, participants also experienced frame rate drops and other performance hiccups. These issues persisted even on high-end PCs, forcing some players to sacrifice graphical quality for better performance, which unfortunately made the game appear even less appealing.
Capcom acknowledged these concerns on November 1, 2024, stating, "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test."
Players can look forward to experiencing these improvements soon, as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds, running from February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This test will feature battles with the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and another undisclosed monster. It remains to be seen whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this final beta test.
