Technology Behind The Witcher 4 and Future Titles
Developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) announced via Twitter (X) that The Witcher 4 will be featured at the upcoming State of Unreal event hosted by Epic Games on June 3 at 9:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM CEST. The presentation will be streamed live on Unreal Engine's official YouTube and Twitch channels. Consult the schedule below to determine the local start time for the broadcast in your region:

The initial reveal of The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024 offered a first look at the visual direction for this fourth mainline Witcher series entry, built on Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). Their upcoming State of Unreal presentation will highlight "some of the innovative technology and features that will drive development for The Witcher 4 and subsequent projects."
This event may provide the first look at The Witcher 4's in-game or in-engine visuals, possibly including gameplay footage. To date, CDPR has only released a CGI cinematic trailer. While visually impressive and intriguing—particularly as it confirmed Ciri as the new main protagonist—fans are eager to see actual gameplay.
Another key point is CDPR's statement that this technology will be used for projects "beyond" The Witcher 4. This suggests that UE5 will also power other future CDPR titles, such as the highly awaited Cyberpunk 2, though the studio has not yet officially confirmed this.
Innovation as a Guiding Principle for Every Game
In the latest episode of CDPR's AnsweRED podcast, co-CEO Adam Badowski discussed the future direction of The Witcher franchise and the importance of maintaining creative freshness. As the studio commemorates the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3, Badowski reflected on their core development philosophy.
"From the outset of developing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, our goal was to blend contrasting elements. We plan to maintain this approach across all our future projects," he explained. Badowski stressed their commitment to introducing new elements in each game and avoiding the repetition of successful formulas in subsequent titles.

He elaborated, "We must incorporate elements that challenge established norms. Repeating our own formula is not our intention. Each game should bring something genuinely new to the table." Badowski identified this principle as a company-wide policy that significantly contributed to The Witcher 3's success.
It will be fascinating to see what new concepts CDPR implements in The Witcher 4 and how Ciri's role as the protagonist influences both the narrative and gameplay mechanics. The Witcher 4 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. No specific release date has been announced yet.
