Dune: Awakening MMO Launches Without Monthly Fees

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

The developer of Dune: Awakening, Funcom, confirmed that the game’s scheduled release date on May 20 will be its full launch, not an early access version. The latest blog post on Steam from March 21 provided more details about the game's business model, system requirements, and plans after launch.

The upcoming multiplayer survival game based on the 1965 science fiction classic will not require a monthly subscription, unlike other MMOs such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Instead, Dune: Awakening "will continue to be expanded through free updates, adding new content, features, and improvements."

Funcom noted that the game will receive long-term support following its release, citing their experience with live service titles. Other MMO games from Funcom include Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to get free updates, DLCs, and expansions after launch.

Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed

The developers also mentioned in the same Steam blog that the game will offer optional paid DLCs and that pre-orders would be available soon. On March 24, a week after the announcement, Dune: Awakening posted on their official website explaining the different editions of the game as well as announcing that pre-orders are now open.

Pre-ordering any of the three editions—Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate—will grant players two special in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern for weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Additionally, pre-ordering the Deluxe or Ultimate edition will grant players a 5-day early access to the game, allowing it to be played on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes the following:

● Season Pass: Contains 4 DLCs. The first of these features several placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The next 3 DLCs will be released later. ● Sardaukar Bator Armor: The intimidating armor worn by the Sardaukar, the elite military force that players must avoid in the game. ● One copy of the base game

In addition to the items included in the Deluxe edition, the Ultimate edition includes the following:

● Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch: A unique color pattern for your sandbike ● Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch: A unique color pattern for your ornithopter ● Caladan Palace Building Set: Pieces and decorations from the 2021 film ● Dune 2021 Film Stillsuit: The stillsuit worn by Paul Atreides in the film ● Digital Artbook: A 50-page collection of artwork from the game’s development ● Digital Soundtrack: 90 minutes of music from the game
