"Path of Exile 2 Devs Rush to Fix Issues Amid 'Mostly Negative' Steam Reviews"

Author : Savannah May 01,2025

Grinding Gear Games (GGG), the developer behind Path of Exile 2, has responded to the community's backlash against the Dawn of the Hunt update with a series of emergency changes. The update, which was released earlier this month, introduced the new Huntress class, five new ascension classes (Ritualist, Amazon, Smith of Kitava, Tactician, and Lich), over one hundred new unique items, and expanded crafting options. Despite these additions, the update received a negative response from players, causing Steam user reviews to drop to 'mostly negative' due to significant nerfs that slowed down gameplay to a "total slog."

Players expressed their frustrations, with one 'most helpful' review on Steam highlighting issues such as excessively long boss fights, minimal skill damage, and overall game stability problems. Another review criticized the game for feeling punishing with little reward, and many players noted that the game's pace had been slowed down excessively in the new version (0.2 - Dawn of the Hunt). Concerns about loot scarcity, forced combo gameplay, large map sizes, and slow movement were also prevalent among the community feedback.

In response, GGG has outlined further changes in the upcoming 0.2.0e update, set to be released on April 11. The patch notes include adjustments to monster speed, act-specific monster changes, boss modifications, player minion adjustments, additional player balance changes, crafting updates, and performance improvements. These changes aim to address the community's concerns and improve the overall gameplay experience.

Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0e Patch Notes

------------------------------------------

Monster Speed Changes

To address the overwhelming presence of monsters, GGG has made specific adjustments to monster behavior across different acts. They have removed interrupt events for many human monsters, such as Cultists in Freythorn and the Faridun in Act Two, to prevent relentless pursuit. The Haste Aura modifier has also been removed from already fast monsters.

Act 1

Werewolf and Tendril Prowlers now enter a walking stance after melee actions, reducing their speed unless the player moves away. Hungering Stalkers have reduced life and damage, and the density of Bloom Serpents and Venomous Crabs has been lowered. Additionally, the duration of Blood Cretins' Blood Pools has been shortened, and the overall monster density in Ogham Manor has been adjusted.

Act 2

Boulder Ants in Titan Valley have been replaced with Risen Maraketh to reduce irritating movement, and the Faridun have had their interrupt events removed.

Act 3

Diretusk Boar and Antlion Charger's charge mechanics have been modified to push players to the side rather than along with them. The Lost City and Azak Bog have seen adjustments to monster compositions, reducing the number of ranged and elite monsters. An issue with Slitherspitter's poison spray in Venom Crypts has also been fixed.

Boss Changes

Viper Napuatzi's fight has been adjusted to reduce the number and size of Chaos Rains, improving visibility and clarity. Uxmal's fight mechanics have been tweaked to reduce location changes, prevent Energy Shield recharging while in the air, and decrease the frequency of Flame Breath usage. Xyclucian's arena has had ground foliage removed to enhance the visibility of his effects.

Player Minion Changes

Minion revive timers have been adjusted to prevent repeated resets, and disenchanting Bind Spectre or Tame Beast gems now unbinds them for reuse. Tamed beasts can now navigate through gaps accessible to players.

Other Player Balance

Rally support can now be used with any melee attack, Glory is no longer consumed if the player is interrupted, and a bug with the Ritualist's Blood Boils has been fixed.

Crafting Changes

All mods have been added to runes for caster weapons, and Renly's shop in the Burning Village now offers a Blank rune that can be forged into any elemental rune. Artificers Orb drops have been fixed at specific locations throughout the campaign.

Performance Improvements

Ground foliage optimization has been implemented to enhance performance across various areas.

0.2.0E Deployment Timeline

The 0.2.0E patch will be deployed at around 10AM NZT, with additional changes planned for after the weekend.

Charm Changes

Charm slots on belts are now determined by implicit mods, varying based on the belt's level. Unique belts can have up to three slots, and several charm mods have been improved for better protection and rewards.

Stash Tab Affinities

New stash tab affinities have been added for Socketables, Fragments, Breach, Expedition, and Ritual items, with Charms now fitting in the Flask stash tab or any tab with the Flask affinity.

Atlas Bookmarks

Players can now bookmark locations on their atlas, with up to 16 bookmarks available, making navigation easier and more efficient.
