PlayStation Stars Shuts Down After 3 Years
Sony has announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program less than three years after its introduction.
The rewards initiative stopped accepting new members today, with exiting participants unable to rejoin. Canceling membership will result in permanent deletion of all accumulated reward points.
Current members can continue earning points through July 23, 2025, and redeem existing balances until November 3, 2026.
PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles will remain viewable for the foreseeable future despite the program's termination, meaning users can still access their 3D collectibles like the Jim Ryan bobblehead.
"Through operating this program, we've gained valuable insights about player preferences," stated Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise on the PlayStation Blog. "As we continuously adapt to industry trends, we've made the strategic decision to sunset the current PlayStation Stars model while applying these learnings to future initiatives."
The announcement didn't specify potential replacements for the program, nor clarify what operational conclusions Sony drew from PlayStation Stars' run.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars rewarded PS5 owners with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases and various engagement activities like surveys and game trials.
The program competed with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards - both platforms have gradually reduced their profitability over time.
PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long service interruption last summer. Last October saw several changes, including shortened point expiration (12 months instead of 24) and removal of PlayStation Plus subscriptions from eligible purchases.
