Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly awaited successor to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Featuring the talented Rahul Kohli, Saros is slated to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.

Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros unmistakably bears the signature of a Housemarque game. As players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a treacherous, ever-changing planet overshadowed by an eclipse and dominated by at least one colossal, formidable entity, the game echoes the spirit of Returnal. The mantra "come back stronger" is reminiscent of roguelike mechanics, while the display of fireballs hints at Housemarque's affinity for bullet-hell gameplay.

PlayAccording to creative director Gregory Louden, *Saros* represents the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. Although a fresh single-player IP, it builds upon the foundation laid by *Returnal*'s third-person action mechanics.

However, Saros introduces significant gameplay distinctions from Returnal. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Louden highlights that while the world of Saros transforms with each player's demise, players can also permanently enhance their weaponry and suits, marking a key difference in progression mechanics.

Fans can anticipate more details later this year, as Housemarque is set to reveal an extended look at the gameplay.
