Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access
Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following the game's full release. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates aimed at resolving feedback gathered during the game's advanced access period.
Initial player and press reviews were mixed, with common criticisms focusing on the user interface, limited map variety, and a perceived lack of expected features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence that the core Civilization fanbase would appreciate the game with continued play.
This initial patch tackles numerous issues, including:
Gameplay:
- Corrected shorter-than-intended Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of vanishing. They also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Resolved inconsistencies in naval combat, ensuring correct combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and consistent tile movement after battles.
- Preventing unintended Age progress upon completing Legacy Path milestones in the Modern Age.
- Towns automatically resume growth when their chosen focus becomes ineligible.
- The "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use.
- Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Improved rail network reliability for settlements connected over water via ports.
- Adjusted the Antiquity Age Loyalty Crisis, allowing the purchase of Villas to manage settlement happiness.
AI:
- Reduced the AI's frequency of offering high-value cities in peace deals.
- Decreased the AI's likelihood of declaring war at the start of the Modern Age.
- Improved AI consideration of ideology before declaring war or offering peace.
- Adjusted AI war and peace inclinations based on opposing ideologies.
Camera:
- Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions that caused it to focus on the map's lower end when clicking the minimap.
UI:
- Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font, pending further improvements.
- Fixed issues with opening the Settlement menu, populating yield icons on converted buildings, and cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
- Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
- Prevented the erroneous display of purchasable city projects.
- Prioritized the display of the current religion in belief picker tabs.
- Removed lingering health bars on fully healed Districts.
- Fixed missing leader portraits after relationship changes.
- Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary and Victories Rankings Overview screens.
- Corrected the default background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
- Improved spacing between Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.
Cross-Play:
Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. PC patches will now be deployed at a potentially different pace than console patches.
