Dead by Daylight Eyes The Thing, Cujo as Killers

Five Nights at Freddy’s is finally making its way into Dead by Daylight, and developer Behaviour Interactive has a whole roster of horror icons it still hopes to add to the game.

The team behind the hit asymmetric horror title shared some of their ambitions in a recent interview with IGN. As you’d expect, the studio is constantly exploring which new Killers and Survivors could join the fray. What might surprise you, though, is how passionate some team members are about specific franchises.

"I've been here for two and a half years, and I've been on a personal mission to figure out how to bring The Thing into Dead by Daylight."

Killer Designer and horror enthusiast Jason Guzzo has previously helped introduce iconic villains like Chucky, Dracula, and Springtrap into the Entity’s realm. Every crossover is a major milestone for Behaviour and its community, but Guzzo admits the one property he'd go to great lengths for is The Thing.

"As far as I know, there aren't any high-level discussions happening around it yet, but my dream—and probably my favorite horror movie—is the obvious choice: The Thing,” Guzzo explained. “I’d love to see The Thing in Dead by Daylight. I've been part of the team for two and a half years, and I've been on this personal crusade to see The Thing join the game."

Guzzo clarifies that his passion for a The Thing Chapter doesn’t mean it’s in active development, and he recognizes certain hurdles could prevent a collaboration from ever happening. He points to the “potential design challenges” of translating such a complex mimic-style murderer into a playable character. Still, this remains the one license he’s determined to make a reality eventually.

Dead by Daylight Creative Director Dave Richard notes that discussions about dream Killers are common within Behaviour. While he agrees a villain like Pennywise would “be amazing,” Richard doesn’t want to limit the possibilities.

“There are other icons of horror we’d love to welcome into the game,” Richard tells us. “You could probably guess a few of the top contenders. Honestly, my goal is to collect them all."

Beyond the obvious horror legends, the team has also batted around some more unexpected ideas.

"Honestly, I just want to collect them all."

“We often bring up a few other names too,” Richard added. “They might seem like jokes at first, but we believe there’s a way to pull them off, especially where the game is now: Cujo. Christine."

Cujo, of course, is the rabies-infected St. Bernard from Stephen King’s novel and its 1983 film adaptation. While a canine Killer would stand out among human slashers like Ghost Face and Michael Myers, it’s not entirely out of the question. Richard’s mention of Christine, another King creation, suggests a killer vehicle could one day join the roster—assuming the team can design it effectively.

One thing is clear: Dead by Daylight isn’t slowing down as it approaches its ninth anniversary. The Five Nights at Freddy’s release is scheduled for June 17, introducing Springtrap and a new pizzeria map.
