Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which emerged from the renowned Destiny and Marathon developer, Bungie. The studio's debut project, described as an "ambitious" incubation game, has sparked excitement from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group CEO, Hermen Hulst.

The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at a focus on social gaming. Their first game is a team-based action title that draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster a sense of community and belonging among players.

teamLFG is committed to creating immersive multiplayer environments where players can enjoy countless hours of gameplay, learning, playing, and mastering the game. The studio plans to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback both before and after the game's launch.

The incubation project that became teamLFG's game was spun out of Bungie during a period of significant layoffs. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs affecting around 100 employees in November 2023, followed by another 220 in 2024. Amid these changes, 155 employees were integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the incubation project was announced.

Recent developments at Bungie include the full reveal of the extraction shooter Marathon and the confirmation of the future roadmap for Destiny 2. However, plans for Destiny 3 have been shelved, and a spinoff project called Payback has been canceled.
