The Voodoo Doll is considered one of the safer Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia due to its favorable risk-reward ratio. Even though updates have altered some of its benefits, it remains a valuable tool for players.
The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to provoke the ghost into performing evidence-related actions. By inserting each of the 10 pins into the doll one at a time, players can trigger the ghost to reveal crucial evidence like EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet prints. This is particularly useful when dealing with a ghost that's being stubborn or silent.
However, using the Voodoo Doll comes with risks. Each pin inserted reduces the user's sanity by 5%, meaning that using all 10 pins could drain up to 50% of your sanity, increasing the likelihood of a ghost hunt.
The most significant risk is associated with the pin located in the doll's heart. Inserting pins is random, and if you happen to hit the heart pin, it will instantly reduce your sanity by 10% and trigger a Cursed Hunt. During a Cursed Hunt, the ghost spawns near your location and hunts for an extended period—20 seconds longer than a typical hunt.
Despite these risks, the Voodoo Doll's ability to gather evidence can be incredibly beneficial if you're well-prepared and cautious.

Cursed Possessions, often referred to as "Cursed Objects," are distinctive items in Phasmophobia that randomly appear on any map, influenced by difficulty settings or Challenge Mode.
Unlike standard equipment, which helps locate the ghost and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects serve as shortcuts to manipulate the ghost's behavior, albeit at a higher risk to the player. The decision to use these items lies with you and your team, and there's no penalty for choosing not to use them. Each contract features one Cursed Possession, unless modified in Custom settings.
The game includes seven different types of Cursed Objects:
- Haunted Mirror
- Voodoo Doll
- Music Box
- Tarot Cards
- Ouija Board
- Monkey Paw
- Summoning Circle
