Killzone Composer: Fans Seeking More Casual, Quicker Games

The beloved Sony franchise, Killzone, has been on hiatus for quite some time, but the call for its revival is growing louder. In a recent interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone's composer, Joris de Man, expressed his hope to see the series make a comeback. "I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man stated. "I think it's [tricky] because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."

While the exact nature of Killzone's potential return remains uncertain, de Man suggested that a remastered collection might be a more viable option than a brand new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he explained. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something. I don't know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick." This reflects the franchise's slower-paced, weightier gameplay compared to faster shooters like Call of Duty. Killzone 2, for instance, was noted for its input lag, which contributed to a less responsive feel on the PlayStation 3. The series is also known for its dark, gritty, and atmospheric tone.

In a separate interview with the Washington Post, it appeared that Guerrilla Games, the Sony-owned developer behind Killzone, had shifted its focus to the Horizon series. Despite this, it has been over a decade since the last Killzone game, Shadow Fall, and the idea of reviving the franchise, or even another PlayStation shooter, remains enticing to many fans. With Joris de Man adding his voice to the chorus, supporters of Killzone can take comfort in knowing they have another advocate for its return.
