Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership
FromSoftware has unveiled more details about its newly announced exclusive for the Switch 2, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the keeper of the hub area, introducing a character that's surprisingly... cute.
During the Switch 2 Direct this week, the trailer ended with a captivating shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, staring directly at the camera. This character, as it turns out, is the new hub companion for The Duskbloods.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in an interview with Nintendo, explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further noted, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."
When asked to elaborate on the "Nintendo-esque" approach, Miyazaki added with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."
FromSoftware's shrine keepers have always been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds. Iconic figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become familiar touchstones for players, often providing the power needed to progress.
In The Duskbloods, a game blending PvP and PvE elements, the role of the winged rat companion remains intriguing. Miyazaki hinted at the team's efforts to introduce "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should expect the unexpected when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
