Here's the official synopsis:
Five years post-Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has largely rejected dinosaurs, relegating them to isolated equatorial zones mirroring their ancient habitats. Within these tropical environments, the three largest creatures—spanning land, sea, and air—harbor genetic secrets promising revolutionary medical breakthroughs for humanity.
Scarlett Johansson, an Academy Award nominee, portrays Zora Bennett, a seasoned covert operative leading a crucial mission to extract vital genetic material. Her mission takes an unexpected turn when it collides with a civilian family shipwrecked by aggressive aquatic dinosaurs. Together, they find themselves marooned on a forbidden island, once a covert research outpost for Jurassic Park. Amidst a diverse array of dinosaurs, they uncover a sinister and shocking secret that has been concealed for decades.
The final trailer offers several highlights, including a river raft scene inspired by Michael Crichton's *Jurassic Park* novel. David Koepp, in a January interview, mentioned revisiting Crichton’s novels for inspiration, as there's no source material for this sequel. He specifically incorporated a sequence from the first novel that was omitted from the 1993 film. “There was a sequence from the first novel that we’d always wanted in the original movie, but didn’t have room for,” Koepp explained. "We were like, ‘Hey, we get to use that now.’ "
Can a T-Rex swim? Yes, it turns out.Elsewhere, the trailer reveals new dinosaurs and a closer look at the 'D-Rex,' officially named Distortus Rex. This mutant dinosaur, created specifically for Jurassic World Rebirth, blends traits of a T-Rex with a Rancor from Star Wars. “It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor,” Gareth Edwards shared with Empire earlier this month.
This is the Distortus Rex, aka the D-Rex. Rancor vibes? The trailer also introduces winged Mutadons, described by Koepp as “a combination of a pterosaur and a Raptor.”
Jurassic Park always has a terrifying raptor scene. This time, there are Mutadons.Jurassic World Rebirth is set to premiere in theaters on July 2. For more insights, explore everything we know about Jurassic World Rebirth and our most pressing questions about the film.
