Ghost of Yōtei Embraces Classic Samurai Cinema
Japanese Cinematic Style at Your Command

The successor to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei, promises a captivating samurai adventure with a fully customizable cinematic experience. It offers a range of special modes that alter both audio and visual presentation. As shown during the Ghost of Yōtei State of Play on July 10th, players can select from several cinematic modes, each designed to bring the game's vast world to life in a unique way.
To accommodate different player preferences, Sucker Punch Productions Creative Directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox stated, "We want playing Ghost of Yōtei to feel like stepping into your favorite classic samurai film." Players can experience the game with English dialogue and no subtitles (Standard), with subtitles (Subtitled), or with the authentic Japanese dialogue and subtitles (Samurai Cinema) for a complete immersive package.

Taking the samurai film experience even further, Sucker Punch Productions has again partnered with the estate of the legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa to reintroduce Kurosawa Mode. This special setting aims to replicate the look and feel of Kurosawa's iconic black-and-white films, complete with film grain, a dedicated audio filter, and heightened wind effects.
While Kurosawa Mode was present in the previous game, Ghost of Yōtei introduces two new cinematic modes inspired by other influential directors in the samurai genre.
Developed in collaboration with Takashi Miike, director of 13 Assassins, Miike Mode pulls the camera much closer to the protagonist Atsu during combat. This creates a more intense and visceral experience, accentuated by mud and blood splatter effects. Producer Shinichirō Watanabe, known for Samurai Champloo, contributes his expertise with Watanabe Mode, which adds a selection of original lo-fi beats to the soundtrack during exploration and combat.

A beloved feature also makes its return in this sequel. Photo Mode is back in Ghost of Yōtei, allowing players to capture stunning shots of the game's beautiful landscapes at any moment. Players can adjust color grading, time of day, weather, Atsu's expressions, wind direction and speed, and even add ambient particles like floating bamboo or yellow leaves to compose the perfect picture.
Together with the new cinematic modes, all these features are set to deliver a significantly enhanced and immersive experience for both newcomers and series veterans.
