Hasbro SVP Teases Quick Updates on Baldur's Gate Future

It’s been over a year and a half since *Baldur’s Gate 3* launched, yet fans continue to return for second, third, even tenth playthrough. The game’s depth, storytelling, and immersive RPG mechanics keep players engaged long after the credits roll. However, with developer Larian Studios stepping back from the franchise, the future of *Baldur’s Gate* now rests in the hands of Hasbro. Fortunately, it seems we won’t have to wait too long before hearing more about what’s next for this iconic series.

During a recent conversation with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, Hasbro’s SVP of digital games, shared that interest in *Baldur’s Gate* remains high within the company.

“We're kind of working out our plans for the future and what we're going to be doing with that. And actually, in pretty short order, we're going to have some stuff to talk about around that.”

Ayoub stopped short of revealing whether this upcoming news points to a full sequel or something else entirely—like a potential crossover similar to the previous collaboration with *Magic: The Gathering*. Still, he made one thing clear: his personal hope is for a *Baldur’s Gate 4*, though he acknowledged that such an undertaking would take time.

“It's somewhat of an unenviable position,” he admitted. “We’re not in a hurry. We're going to take a very measured approach… We've got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We're starting to think about, okay, yeah, we're ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we're going to have some other things to talk about around that.”

The pressure to deliver a worthy successor to *Baldur’s Gate 3* is immense, and that expectation extends beyond just the next mainline entry. It influences other Dungeons & Dragons-related projects currently in development at Hasbro, including the D&D title announced last year.

“I'm never one to shy down from a challenge,” Ayoub continued. “Anything that forces us to raise our creative bar is a good thing. Developers love having a high bar to aim for, and we’ve seen the team push some really interesting ideas. They’re saying, ‘Okay, we need to raise our bar. We need to go bigger on this.’ That’s our hope—we keep raising the standard and everyone keeps striving higher.”

We covered several other topics with Ayoub, including the future of *Magic: The Gathering*, its partnership with Saber Interactive, and Hasbro’s broader gaming strategy. Stay tuned for our full interview dropping next week.
