"First-Ever Star Wars Novel Dives into Post-Skywalker Era"
Exciting news for Star Wars fans eager to delve deeper into the galaxy far, far away post-*The Rise of Skywalker*! While Shawn Levy's much-anticipated *Star Wars: Starfighter* remains on the horizon, a new young adult novel titled *Star Wars: The Last Order* will soon offer an initial glimpse into the aftermath of the 2019 film. Announced by publisher Penguin Random House, this novel promises to enrich the saga with fresh narratives centered around beloved characters.
*Star Wars: The Last Order*, penned by acclaimed author Kwame Mbalia, will focus on the adventures of Finn, portrayed by John Boyega, and Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie, as introduced in *Rise of Skywalker*. The official synopsis teases an engaging plot where the Resistance, led by Finn and Jannah, rescues a ship filled with kidnapped young passengers from the clutches of the First Order. As they embark on a mission to find the responsible First Order officer, both former stormtroopers confront their pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime, adding depth to their journeys of redemption and resistance.
This novel marks the first official Star Wars project to explore the universe following the events of *Rise of Skywalker*, though it's not the first planned project to do so. Shawn Levy's *Star Wars: Starfighter* is set to continue the post-*Rise of Skywalker* timeline, with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirming in a February interview with Deadline that the film will take place "post-[the first] nine," approximately "five or six years out." Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind *Starfighter*, expressed his enthusiasm for the project to Screen Rant last month, hinting at a sooner-than-expected release. Excitingly, the film's release date was announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan, set for May 28, 2027, with Ryan Gosling confirmed to star.
