CD Projekt Prioritizes AAA Open-World RPGs

CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński has emphasized the studio's commitment to its core expertise: "Creating AAA open-world RPGs with rich narratives."

During a discussion on AnsweRed podcast with joint-CEO Adam Badowski, Iwiński reflected on the studio's journey, acknowledging their previous temptations to explore different genres while reaffirming their focus on what they do best.

"We've learned we must maintain laser-sharp focus," Iwiński stated. "We experimented with branching out, but ultimately realized our strength lies in perfecting our signature style. That's why we've expanded to multiple projects while staying true to our RPG roots."

Badowski added, "Our strategy remains clear: we're dedicated to developing high-quality, story-driven open-world RPGs. This is our specialty and where we'll continue to invest 100% of our efforts."

"It sounds simple," Iwiński noted, "but growth brings constant temptations. We must resist distraction and stay committed to our core vision to maintain quality."

Badowski reinforced this philosophy: "Innovation is important, but we must carefully adapt new ideas to fit our established framework. Immediate excitement doesn't always translate to long-term success."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has achieved phenomenal success, surpassing 60 million copies sold when including both standard and GOTY editions - not even counting the standalone expansions.

Recent announcements revealed The Witcher 3 will receive another major update in 2025, introducing cross-platform mod support for the first time in the series' history. This patch will enable console players to access mods alongside PC users, commemorating the game's 10th anniversary.

Regarding The Witcher 4, while development is fully underway, players shouldn't expect its release before 2027. The studio's current portfolio also includes Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius (a Witcher multiplayer title), Project Hadar (an original IP), and a ground-up remake of the original Witcher game.
