Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Launch

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has reached a significant milestone with the release of its final patch, marking the end of its legendary journey. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios unveiled BG3’s Patch 8, the game's last major update. The release of this patch led to a remarkable increase in player engagement, with the game's concurrent player count on Steam jumping from around 60,000 to over 169,000, propelling it just outside the platform's top 10 most played games.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke celebrated the surge in players via a tweet on April 22, crediting the game's robust modding community for enabling the studio to shift focus toward their next project. Larian Studios has announced their departure from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to explore new creative horizons.

In light of this, D&D's parent companies, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, have decided to continue the Baldur’s Gate series without Larian Studios. They are currently in discussions with other studios to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4.

12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and Enhanced Features!

Patch 8, initially teased in a Steam blog post in November 2024, has finally arrived with a host of new features. This update introduces 12 new subclasses, a much-requested photo mode, cross-play capabilities, and a comprehensive list of improvements. The detailed patch notes, available on the BG3 official website, showcase an extensive array of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring a polished final experience.

Larian Studios has poured their heart into perfecting BG3, evident from the extensive updates and fixes included in this last major patch. Although this marks the end of significant updates, Larian remains committed to supporting the game’s modding community.
