The cards we're revealing today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included in the larger main set. These are reprints of existing cards, adorned with unique concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new mechanics or cards like those previously shown in the Commander decks, their artwork harks back to the very first game in the series, offering a nostalgic touch for fans.

Unlike the cards in the main set, the Through the Ages cards do not become legal in Magic's Standard format. However, if the original card was already legal, these alternate art versions can still be used. These cards can be found in both the premium Collector Boosters and in one out of every three regular Play Boosters, which are used for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.

If you're planning to dive into this set at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards often. Five of the six cards are Rares, which means they're less common, but Thrum of the Vestige stands out as an Uncommon. This card is a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, and its presence is expected to have a significant impact on the set.

The Warrior of Light's reprinting of Jodah, the Unifier, is sure to be a fan favorite. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the art here is Amano's from the original Final Fantasy's Japanese boxart. Similarly, Amano's iconic art for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been used for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, which has only been reprinted once before this set.

These cards will be available physically as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy fan not yet into Magic, there's excitement to be had, as FF7 Remake series director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that the design of Sephiroth on one card holds a mysterious significance.
