"Durak" ("Fool") comes in two primary variants: "Fool Flip" (Durak Podkidnoy) and "Fool Transferable" (Durak Perevodnoy). While the rules share some similarities, each variant introduces its own unique elements.

The primary objective of the game is to discard all your cards as quickly as possible. The first player to do so wins, while the last player remaining is dubbed the "fool" (durak).

Fool Flip (Durak Podkidnoy) is the classic version of the game. In this mode, if the attacker has no cards to play against the defending player, the next player to the defender's left takes over. This player can initially play only one card. Once it is beaten, the turn to play a card returns to the original attacker. If the player to the left of the defender has no cards to play, the opportunity moves clockwise to the next player. Hence, all players can participate in attacking, but they do so in turn, which is why this variant is known as "Flip Fool" (Durak Podkidnoy) or "Classic Durak."

Transferable Fool (Durak Perevodnoy) adds complexity and excitement to the game. From the second move onward, the defending player can "transfer" a card played against them by placing a card of the same rank but a different suit on the table. The player to their left then becomes the new defender. This defender can also transfer the card to the next player, and so on. This variant is aptly named "Transferable Fool" (Durak Perevodnoy).
