The Witcher 3 Final Patch Arrives in 2025, Adds Console Mods
In 2025, The Witcher 3 will receive another significant update, introducing cross-platform mod support for the very first time on consoles.
CD Projekt revealed this patch as part of the game's 10th-anniversary celebration. The update will deliver cross-platform mod functionality to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year. According to CD Projekt, "Creating, sharing, and enjoying mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will become simpler and more accessible than ever before."
The cross-platform mod system will be part of a free update rolling out later this year. To access it, players will need a mod.io account linked to their CD Projekt Red account. Existing modding platforms will remain compatible, so PC players aren't required to use mod.io. However, console users will need mod.io to browse and install mods.
While Xbox Series X|S and PS5 players can enjoy a wide variety of cross-platform mods, creating mods still requires a PC and tools like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit.
This is an exciting development for the decade-old game, which continues to attract a dedicated player base years after its initial launch.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now reached an incredible 60 million copies sold. This figure includes sales of both the base game and the Game of the Year edition, but not separately sold expansions. The Witcher 3 is now close to surpassing the latest reported sales for Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In a June 2023 interview with IGN, Bethesda's Todd Howard stated that Skyrim had sold more than 60 million copies, putting the two titles in a tight race for the best-selling RPG of all time.
CD Projekt's joint CEO, Adam Badowski, commented on this sales achievement:
The third chapter of Geralt's journey represents a turning point for our studio. It received countless awards and elevated our reputation, but most importantly, it provided endless hours of adventure and emotional engagement to players worldwide. I'm proud to confirm that The Witcher 3 has surpassed 60 million sales, ranking among the top-selling video games ever and inspiring us to push forward with our upcoming trilogy in this universe.
This refers to the next Witcher game, currently in full production. At CD Projekt, 422 out of 730 developers are dedicated to the sequel, which is not expected until at least 2027.
