Developer Cygames made the announcement on Twitter (X) on April 27, confirming a launch date of June 26, 2025, with pre-registrations opening the following day, April 28.

Originally launched exclusively in Japan on February 24, 2021, for iOS, Android, and PC, the game presents a fascinating narrative where legendary racehorses are reborn as "horse girls" or "Umamusume." These characters, resembling high school girls but possessing equine traits like ears, tails, endurance, and speed, train at Tokyo's Tracen Academy with dreams of becoming renowned racers and idols.

According to the game's Steam page, players can "scout featured trainees and supporters as you navigate the immersive sports life simulation through the game’s in-depth training system and top-of-the-line 3D graphics!" The game includes a gacha system, allowing players to choose from over 20 Uma Musumes to scout, train, and compete in races, showcasing their stunning performances.

In a report from March 2025 by PocketGamer.biz, the Japanese version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby generated over $2.5 billion in mobile revenue within just four years, nearly reaching $1 billion in its launch year of 2021. With the upcoming English version, Cygames aims to replicate this success on a global scale.
