Ubisoft Restarts Project Maverick Development: Rumor
The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, as reported by Insider Gaming. Originally codenamed Project Maverick, this game was initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, the project saw significant changes. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to shift most resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The final decision to abandon the multiplayer aspect came with the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.
The project's oversight has now been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. Almost the entire original team has been reassigned to focus on the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 aims to envelop players in an atmosphere brimming with tension and desperation, where time emerges as the primary adversary. The narrative will center on the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious cult engaged in terrifying experiments involving hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will be tasked with rescuing their loved ones within a stringent 72-hour in-game time frame, which translates to 24 hours in real time. This time constraint introduces a critical gameplay mechanic, intensifying the urgency and pressure of the mission.
A unique feature of the game will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This element not only amplifies the sense of urgency but also compels players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is set to offer a distinctive experience where every second is precious, and each choice carries significant weight.
