However, the true allure of Monster Hunter Wilds lies in its intense and thrilling monster battles, which are both numerous and unique.

In the game, players take on the role of a protagonist, customizable as either male or female, tasked with exploring uncharted territories as part of an expedition triggered by the discovery of a child named Nata in the desert. This child, the sole survivor of a tribe decimated by a mysterious creature dubbed the "White Ghost," sets the stage for the adventure. Despite the attempt to weave a dramatic narrative, the storyline often veers into the absurd, especially with the local inhabitants' unfamiliarity with weapons, which our hero uses effortlessly.

The narrative has become more structured, providing a richer world and more refined delivery. However, the game still falls short of being a fully story-driven experience. The linearity of the narrative can become tiresome after about ten hours of play, especially for those seeking freedom and hunting. Thankfully, the campaign, which lasts around 15-20 hours, allows players to skip most dialogues and cutscenes, a feature I greatly appreciate.

The hunting mechanics have been streamlined in Monster Hunter Wilds. Wounding a monster now visibly marks its body, and holding the right buttons can destroy these wounds, causing significant damage and dropping monster parts that are automatically collected. This convenience is a commendable move by the developers.

New to the game are rideable pets called Seikrets, which automatically navigate at top speed to your hunting target or any map location. If knocked down, you can summon your Seikret to quickly pick you up, avoiding lengthy recovery animations and potential devastating attacks. This feature has been a lifesaver for me, especially when my health is critically low. The automatic navigation to destinations also removes the need to constantly check the map, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.

Fast travel to camps is another handy feature, suggested by the game when you hover over the tent icon. Unlike previous games, Monster Hunter Wilds does not display health bars for monsters; instead, you must interpret their movements, animations, and sounds to gauge their condition. Your Seikret will also vocalize the monster's state, adding a new layer to the combat dynamics.

Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds have evolved, using the environment more strategically in battles, such as hiding in crevices or climbing ledges. Some can even form packs, challenging you to fight multiple enemies simultaneously. However, you can call for backup, either from other players or NPCs, making these encounters more manageable and enjoyable.
