Switch 2 Pre-Order Dates and Priority Details for U.S. and Canada Revealed

The eagerly anticipated pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were initially scheduled to commence globally on April 9. However, due to economic turbulence sparked by Trump's tariffs, Nintendo had to delay the pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada. Despite this setback, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, including the UK.

According to a FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first invitations for pre-orders will be dispatched starting May 8, 2025, through the My Nintendo Store. Details regarding retail pre-orders have yet to be released.

Nintendo plans to send out additional batches of invitation emails "periodically" until the purchasing option on the My Nintendo Store becomes available to everyone.

The initial batch of invitation emails will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis to "eligible registrants who meet the priority criteria," as explained by Nintendo. Those who receive an invitation will have a 72-hour window from the time the email is sent to finalize their purchase.

To be eligible for these priority invitations, you must meet the following criteria:

• Have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership
• Have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months
• Have opted in to share gameplay data and accumulated at least 50 hours of gameplay

Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether it will maintain its previously announced pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2, its games, and accessories, or if adjustments will be made.
