Nintendo has shed light on the compatibility issues surrounding its newly released GameCube controller, particularly with regard to its use with the Nintendo Switch 2. The controller was first showcased during the 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month, where it was noted that it is primarily designed for the Nintendo Switch Online retro library's GameCube games. However, Nintendo has now clarified that while players might be able to use the GameCube controller with other Nintendo Switch 2 titles, they could encounter "issues" due to the controller lacking the full range of buttons and features found on more modern controllers.

Nintendo reiterated that the GameCube controller is intended for use with the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection on the Switch 2 and is not compatible with the original Nintendo Switch. In a statement to Nintendo Life, Nintendo emphasized, "The Nintendo GameCube controller is designed for use with the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection of games and is an optional way to play those games. Since it doesn’t have all the buttons and features found in other controllers that can be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 system, there may be some issues when playing other games. The Nintendo GameCube controller can only be used on Nintendo Switch 2 and is not compatible with Nintendo Switch."
