Square Enix has put all doubts to rest with a clear and exciting update on social media regarding the development of Kingdom Hearts 4. This follows their announcement yesterday about the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. Despite this setback, the company took the opportunity to reassure fans that the team is diligently working on the much-anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4.

In a heartfelt message, Square Enix stated, "We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" Accompanying this message was a captivating collage of screenshots that offer a glimpse into the game. These images showcase various elements such as characters, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming, and a formidable large enemy, sparking excitement among fans.

A second post from Square Enix expressed gratitude to the fans, saying, "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first substantial news about Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a small, cryptic tease back in January. Despite being officially unveiled in September 2022 with a cinematic trailer, Square Enix had been notably silent on the project until now.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will begin to steer the long-running saga towards its conclusion after 22 years and 18 games, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.

Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix issued an apology, explaining that the project was canceled because "it was determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
