Space Marine 2 Patch Reverts Nerfs After Fan Backlash

Saber Interactive is releasing hotfix 4.1 for Space Marine 2, directly responding to negative player feedback regarding the balance changes introduced in Patch 4.0. The update, arriving October 24th, reverses several key nerfs, demonstrating a commitment to community engagement. Furthermore, the developers announced plans to launch public test servers in early 2025 to gather feedback before future updates.

The decision to revert the nerfs follows significant player backlash, including negative reviews on Steam. The developers acknowledged that Patch 4.0 aimed to increase enemy spawns to heighten challenge, but this inadvertently impacted lower difficulty levels.

Game director Dmitriy Grigorenko stated, "We’ve been monitoring your feedback…and have decided to address your most pressing concerns…This is why…we’d like to harness this energy by establishing Public Test Servers."

The upcoming hotfix will specifically address these points:

  • Enemy Spawns: Extremis enemy spawn rates on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties are returning to pre-Patch 4.0 levels. Ruthless difficulty will see a significant reduction in spawns.
  • Player Armor: A 10% armor increase for players on Ruthless difficulty.
  • Bot AI: Bots will now inflict 30% more damage to bosses.
  • Bolt Weapon Buffs: A comprehensive buff to the entire Bolt weapon family, addressing previous underperformance across all difficulty levels. Specific damage increases include:
    • Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
    • Bolt Rifle: +10%
    • Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
    • Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
    • Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
    • Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
    • Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
    • Bolt Carbine: +15%
    • Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
    • Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)

Grigorenko concluded by assuring players that Saber Interactive will continue monitoring feedback after Patch 4.1 to ensure the Lethal difficulty remains appropriately challenging and rewarding. The introduction of public test servers in 2025 signals a commitment to a more collaborative development process.
