Originally developed by Bethesda Game Studios and co-published by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was initially slated to be a launch title for the Xbox 360 in late 2005. However, due to development delays, the Xbox 360 and PC versions were released in March 2006.

The mobile version, crafted by Superscape and published by Vir2L Studios, hit the market in May 2006. The PlayStation 3 version followed, launching in North America in March 2007 and in Europe the following month.
