Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs
Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, causing financial markets to tumble and affecting preorders across the border. Nintendo Canada confirmed that preorders in their region are also facing delays, dashing hopes of securing a console via a cousin in Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the timing of pre-orders in the U.S., which is still to be determined," Nintendo of Canada stated in a release to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This statement echoes one given to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, though the Canadian version omits specific mentions of the new tariffs.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."
With the original pre-order date looming tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can start refreshing their browsers and double-checking their credit card details. This uncertainty leaves gamers in limbo and anxious about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.
In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders went live in the UK today, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have already begun listing pre-orders on eBay for as much as £500 ($639), significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
