To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Metro series, 4A Games has made Metro 2033 Redux available for free on Steam and Xbox. This generous offer lasts until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT, giving fans and newcomers alike a 48-hour window to grab this iconic game. The announcement came via Metro's official Twitter (X) account on April 14.

This initiative aims to introduce new players to the world of Metro, starting from its origins. In addition to this, 4A Games shared their plans for the anniversary in a blog post on March 16. They promised a year filled with events, deals, and celebratory content across Metro's social media channels to thank their dedicated player base.

Founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, 4A Games draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky's science fiction novel, Metro 2033, and its sequels. Despite the challenging circumstances in Ukraine, the studio remains committed to creating content that reflects real-world issues, particularly the ongoing war.

In a recent update, 4A Games acknowledged the difficulties they face but reassured fans of their safety and their ongoing efforts. They emphasized that the next Metro title will be released when ready, stating, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The Next Metro

4A Games is currently developing two triple-A projects: the next Metro game and a brand new IP. While details about the new IP remain under wraps, the studio has shared insights into how the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has influenced the narrative of the upcoming Metro title.

The 2022 invasion of Ukraine deeply affected the developers, leading them to incorporate their lived experiences into the game's storyline. The post detailed, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."

Despite the challenges, 4A Games remains dedicated to crafting a compelling and relevant narrative for the next chapter in the Metro series. They assured fans of their commitment to delivering a high-quality game that resonates with the realities they face.
