Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile boss in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements can be frustrating, especially due to its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, Xu Wu's black skin makes it difficult to distinguish its front from its back. You'll need to contend with its multiple arms and its ability to slip into walls and disappear momentarily. It often reappears on the ceiling, attempting to drop down on you. This move is exclusive to its nest, so exercise extra caution when fighting there.

Use Ice Attacks

Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to Ice attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds. Utilize Ice ammo if you're a ranged fighter, or equip melee weapons with gear that inflicts Ice elemental damage. Enhance your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to gain the Ice Attack skill. Carrying a Frost Pod is also advisable for dealing minor Ice damage.

Avoid the Grab Attack

In addition to its tentacle attacks and diving maneuvers, Xu Wu employs a grab attack in Monster Hunter Wilds. If caught, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons. You have roughly two seconds to escape, and using your slinger, particularly with Frost Pods, is the most effective way to break free.

Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth

The mouth of Xu Wu is its weakest point, though it's hidden beneath its body. You'll typically only see it when the monster dives at you. A well-timed, powerful attack during this moment can cause significant damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu's fang. If you can't reach the mouth, target the head, which has a 4-star weakness to blunt and cut damage and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.

Use Poison

Xu Wu has a 3-star weakness to Poison, making it an effective status ailment to use against it. A bow with Poison Coating is particularly useful for applying this effect. While other status ailments can be used, avoid Sleep as it's less effective against this monster.

How To Capture Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap, and consider using meat as bait or positioning yourself to lure the monster into the trap. Quickly shoot a tranquilizer at Xu Wu to prevent it from escaping, as you only have a few seconds before it breaks free.
