"Marvel Snap Blocked in US Amid TikTok Restrictions"
Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, which is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Unfortunately, due to the same reasons that led to the banning of other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8, Marvel Snap was also removed from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This sudden discontinuation has left many players frustrated, particularly with ongoing authorization issues. However, PC gamers can still access the game through Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise at the incident and are actively working to bring the game back online. An official statement from Platform X reassures players:
“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”
One of the most frustrating aspects of this situation is that players received no prior warning, leading many to continue investing in in-game purchases unaware of the impending lockout. While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate. For example, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain available for play.
In other Marvel Snap news, we previously discussed the addition of Moonstone, an ongoing card from the game's Ongoing archetype. Moonstone, a 4-cost, 6-power card, is a much-needed addition to the current meta. Her ability to copy the ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane makes her exceptionally powerful. Given the existing pool of low-cost ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which typically boost power, Moonstone can quickly gain high value by acquiring these effects at no additional cost.
