Marvel Snap is back online, but Second Dinner aren\'t happy and is seeking a new publisher

Author : Emily Apr 26,2025

After a tense few days, Second Dinner's popular card game, Marvel Snap, is once again accessible in the United States. The game faced a brief outage following the TikTok ban that impacted its publisher, ByteDance. However, it seems that the developer was caught off guard by the sudden decision to halt service, which included a stark warning message labeling the app as "banned."

As Second Dinner works diligently to resolve ongoing issues and respond to player grievances, they've made a significant announcement: they are now in the process of seeking a new publisher. This development marks a major setback for Nuverse, a ByteDance subsidiary that has been at the helm of publishing this top-performing game since its well-received launch in 2022, featuring beloved Marvel characters in fast-paced card battles.

By now, you might have read my opinion piece on this topic (and if not, where have you been?). I highlighted that ByteDance's decision to abruptly remove TikTok and many of its gaming titles, with little to no warning for the latter, was likely to backfire—and it seems that prediction is coming true.

Second Dinner's frustration is evident, especially as their social media channels are flooded with upset players lamenting missed log-in rewards and event gameplay. The move to publicly seek a new publisher underscores the deep-seated dissatisfaction within the company regarding the recent events.

Securing a new publisher could take months or even years, but the hope is that such incidents won't recur in the meantime.
