IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne from September 18, 2025. This is part of a special video game exhibition called Game Worlds, which will also showcase the game’s design and artistic direction.

Team Cherry, the studio behind this highly anticipated title and based in Adelaide, South Australia, has kept fans on the edge of their seats with a vague 2025 release window. However, the playable demo at ACMI offers a concrete date for enthusiasts who can attend. Hollow Knight: Silksong has been topping the Steam wishlist chart for years, underscoring its massive anticipation.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

ACMI has shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of several design elements that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. This image was provided to IGN with permission.

With the game being playable from September 18, fans are speculating that an official release might occur before that date, perhaps in August. The anticipation is building as Silksong recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, offering a few seconds of new gameplay and confirming the updated 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of various intriguing teases. Team Cherry kicked off 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
