Italian studio 3DClouds has unveiled Formula Legends, a captivating new game that draws inspiration from Art of Rally and dives into the thrilling world of arcade-style, open-wheel racing. This title offers an unlicensed homage to more than 50 years of Formula 1 history, capturing the essence of the sport's evolution.

In an exclusive preview with IGN, 3DClouds showcased the game's development, highlighting their meticulous efforts to recreate various eras of F1. While aspects such as AI behavior are still being refined, the dedication to authenticity across different time periods is already striking.

Play**Formula Legends** will feature an impressive array of 16 car models, each boasting seven distinct liveries. Although these cars are stylized with a playful, toy-like design, they proudly wear their off-brand tributes to some of the most iconic racecar designs in history. The team's focus on sound design is particularly noteworthy, given its importance to the unique identity of classic F1 cars. Additionally, the game will support modding, allowing enthusiasts to customize liveries, helmets, and trackside sponsors, enhancing the overall experience.

The game will include 14 circuits, each with multiple variations to mirror their evolution from the 1970s to the 2020s. These tracks are inspired by real-world locations, adding a layer of authenticity to the gameplay.

The story mode of Formula Legends promises to be a highlight, offering era-based championships that guide players through pivotal moments in F1's storied past.

Racing in Formula Legends will be nuanced, with 200 drivers, each equipped with unique skill perks. Players will need to navigate challenges such as tyre wear, fuel consumption, rubbered-in racing lines, damage, and dynamic weather conditions. Balancing these deeper elements with an accessible arcade approach will be key to the game's success.

View 18 ImagesProducer Francesco Mantovani shared that while New Star GP inspired them, they aimed to position Formula Legends between that game and Art of Rally in terms of gameplay. "Art of Rally was the main inspiration we took for this game. We appreciate how they worked on the camera and on the tracks," Mantovani explained.

Although 3DClouds has primarily developed licensed racing games for younger audiences, such as Paw Patrol Grand Prix, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, and Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem, Formula Legends represents a passion project they've long desired to create. Executive producer Roberta Migliori emphasized this, stating, "I think it's a game that they've been wanting to make for a really, really long time, and finally we have the resources to do it." The studio's work-for-hire background has enabled them to fund this project independently, capitalizing on the soaring popularity of F1.

Located near Monza, the legendary Temple of Speed, 3DClouds benefits from being close to one of Formula 1's most iconic tracks.

Formula Legends is set to launch later this year on Xbox One and Series X|S, PS4 and PS5, PC, and Switch. While the team currently does not have access to Switch 2 kits, Migliori confirmed they will explore that option when the time is right.
