EA Unveils Apex Legends 2.0 Following Battlefield
EA's recent financial call revealed that despite its immense popularity—boasting over 200 million players—Apex Legends isn't meeting the company's financial targets. EA CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged the game's success with its core player base but admitted its revenue trajectory hasn't been satisfactory. While ongoing support, including quality-of-life improvements, anti-cheat measures, and new content, continues, the results haven't met expectations.
To address this, EA is developing "Apex Legends 2.0," a significant update aiming to revitalize the franchise, attract new players, and boost revenue. However, its release is planned for after the next Battlefield game, likely sometime in EA's 2027 fiscal year. Wilson emphasized EA's long-term commitment to Apex Legends, envisioning it as a franchise with a lifespan of decades, with further, even more substantial updates planned beyond Apex Legends 2.0. The company is mindful of the challenges and successes of similar reboots in the battle royale market, like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, as they strategize Apex Legends' future growth. Despite its current success on Steam, Apex Legends’ concurrent player count is below its peak, highlighting the need for EA's planned revitalization.
