In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no dedicated sprint button—your character automatically accelerates into a sprint after a few steps. While sprinting is a quick way to traverse the battlefield, reaching distant officers swiftly can be crucial for turning the tide of battle in your favor.

This is where your trusty steed comes into play. You can summon your horse at any time, whether you're navigating the overworld or engaged in combat. Moreover, you can leverage your horse for swift hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how you can unlock your first horse, enhance its abilities, and switch between different horses to suit your strategy.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Unlocking your first horse is straightforward and comes at no cost. During Chapter 1, after completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll encounter him as you journey northeast from Wan Castle towards the Battle Of Guangzong, just before reaching the camp. Approach the merchant standing beside his horse, and he'll gift you your first mount, which will be automatically equipped.

Summoning your horse is easy: press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or hit the 'V' key on your keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains experience points (XP) from missions and main story battles, even if you don't actively use it during these engagements. However, it won't earn XP from Skirmishes. Look for missions marked with a red diamond and a soldier icon—these medium-length battles are perfect for leveling up your horse. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the duration of the battle, how often you ride it, and how effectively you use it to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at certain milestones, which vary depending on the horse.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Initially, your first horse is automatically equipped, but you'll have opportunities to acquire and switch to different horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, found as the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse offers unique perks and varying speeds, so consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you need to maximize the peace level in a region. Once achieved, a reward, often a new horse, will be available at a nearby waypoint.
