Disney's Snow White Remake Struggles to Break Even Amid Box Office Slump

Snow White, directed by Marc Webb of The Amazing Spider-Man fame, had a challenging start at the box office, marking one of the weakest openings for a Disney remake. The film earned $43 million domestically during its opening weekend, according to Comscore. While this was enough to lead the week's chart and rank as the second highest domestic opening of 2025, trailing only behind Captain America: Brave New World, it fell short of the $45 million debut of the live-action Dumbo in 2019 and did not meet expectations.

For comparison, other Disney live-action remakes like 2019's The Lion King, 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2016's The Jungle Book, and 2023's The Little Mermaid all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends.

Internationally, Snow White's performance was equally subdued, pulling in $44.3 million, resulting in a global total of $87.3 million for the opening weekend.

Snow White is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1937 animated classic, featuring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a reported production budget exceeding $250 million, the film faces a steep climb to profitability, especially when factoring in marketing expenses.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for Snow White. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, despite a modest $35.4 million domestic opening, ultimately grossed over $717 million worldwide. Disney will be hoping for a similar late surge in popularity for Snow White, even as they navigate ongoing concerns about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has accumulated $400.8 million globally after six weekends.

IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising it as a meaningful adaptation of the original rather than a mere imitation.
