Developer Warns: The Witcher 4 Beta Tests Are Scams
The developers of The Witcher 4 have issued a crucial warning to fans about a circulating scam involving beta test invitations. CD Projekt Red, the team behind the beloved series, took to The Witcher's official Twitter (now known as X) on April 16 to alert the community about fraudulent invitations to a non-existent beta test for The Witcher 4. They emphasized their efforts to remove this misleading content and urged fans to report any such scams they encounter using the tools provided by their email clients or social media platforms. CD Projekt Red also assured fans that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced through their official channels.
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The scam has been a significant concern for the community, especially since The Witcher 4 was officially announced at the Game Awards in December 2024. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer featuring Ciri as the new protagonist, marking a shift from the series' previous main character, Geralt. This change sparked considerable discussion among fans, as Geralt had been central to the narrative of the first three games.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, addressed the fan reactions to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber, who himself enjoyed playing as Geralt, acknowledged the fans' sentiments but emphasized the team's commitment to showcasing Ciri's potential in new and exciting ways. "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago," Weber stated.
Małgorzata Mitręga, the Executive Producer of The Witcher 4, also expressed appreciation for the support from fans who embraced the decision to feature Ciri. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released," Mitręga remarked, highlighting the team's focus on delivering a game that would address and hopefully exceed fans' expectations.

According to the developers, The Witcher 4 is poised to be the most ambitious installment in the series yet, promising new regions and monsters to explore. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.
