In this setting, you awaken with no memory of how you arrived, surrounded by a cast of vibrant characters who share your confusion. It seems you're destined for something great, yet a giant spinning orb threatens to end everything in just twenty-four hours. Welcome to your first day on the job as a Seer!

Despite the ominous countdown, the setting and story exude a charmingly wild vibe. A library filled with nonsensical books, time travel, and numerous mythological references (watch out for that mysterious bird) create an immersive narrative. The game throws you into the deep end story-wise, and if you're feeling a bit lost, that's part of the intended experience.

Black Beacon's core gameplay is a blend of ARPG and dungeon crawler, offering a customizable camera viewpoint. Whether you prefer a top-down perspective or a free camera setup that you can adjust with your other hand, the choice is yours. We found the latter more engaging, but it's all about personal preference.

As you navigate the Library's corridors, you progress through short, episodic story sections, each comprising several maps. Accessing these sections requires energy, but the game is quite generous with its allocation, allowing ample playtime.

Exploration involves solving puzzles, discovering hidden treasures, and battling enemies—distorted entities that the Library hasn't fully "digested." Combat is both fast-paced and challenging, rewarding precise timing. Perfectly timed dodges grant invincibility frames, and well-timed heavy attacks can interrupt enemy moves, sparing you from dodging.

The character-swapping mechanic adds a dynamic layer to battles, enabling you to switch fighters mid-combat, much like a tag team. This feature helps maintain momentum, allowing you to rest exhausted characters and bring in fresh ones, even during attacks. Once you master the rhythm, combat feels rewarding, though mistimed dodges can send you flying down the hallway.
