Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis
One of the most intricate aspects of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is integral to nearly every part of the game. From gathering resources to crafting weapons, everything revolves around it. Here's how to optimize your Synthesis experience.
Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia
In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:
- Regular Synthesis conducted at an Alchemist’s altar
- Simple Synthesis done from the radial menu
- Building Synthesis done from the building mode
To craft weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and the materials needed for Synthesis, you must utilize the Regular Synthesis mechanic, which is exclusive to the Alchemist’s altar. Early in the game, you'll unlock the Atelier, your go-to place for Synthesis. However, in areas where construction is possible—such as plots of land cleared from manabound zones and campsites—you can build a Simple Altar, enabling Regular Synthesis in those locations.
Simple Synthesis can be accessed anytime outside of battle through the radial menu. It allows you to craft essential items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
The Building mode, also accessed via the radial menu, is limited to specific plots of land. Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, Yumia is indeed synthesizing storage chests and wall hangings. The story often refers to this process as Synthesis, so keep that in mind to avoid confusion.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia
Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex form of Synthesis. To craft, for instance, a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to discover the recipe while exploring. You can also enhance your existing gun staff recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here's what you need to do at an Alchemist’s altar:
- Select the type of gun staff you want to create.
- Choose Synthesis Skills (if unlocked in the skill tree).
- Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
- Effects Alchemy Core increases the selected skills.
- Quality Alchemy Core boosts the quality level of the completed item.
- Trait Alchemy Core adds more Trait Crystal slots for the item.
- Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with collected resources.
- Collect mana fragments to further enhance the quality.
- Finalize and Synthesize the item.
To craft powerful items early on, unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide significant boosts to damage and quality and allow you to duplicate items, conserving resources.
Enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to navigate between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments (the yellow sparkles) for all three cores significantly boosts the item's strength, a step you should take unless crafting a quest item.
When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of specific slots, identified by a blue outline. You can organize resources in the submenu to select higher-quality ones first, though you might prefer to focus on effects.
If the complexity of Synthesis is overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at crafting optimal items, allowing you to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty without much difficulty.
And that's all you need to know to maximize the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
