Assassin's Creed Shadows: Free Updates and DLC Details Revealed

Ubisoft has unveiled an exciting roadmap for the first year of post-launch content for Assassin's Creed Shadows, promising a host of new features including new game+ mode, enhanced difficulty settings, additional story content, and much more. This comprehensive plan was revealed in a detailed four-and-a-half-minute video update, which provided a clear schedule for May and June, as the development team aims to keep the community engaged with regular free updates throughout 2025.

The rollout begins in early May with "The Works of Luis Frois," the first of several free story add-ons. Accompanying this release will be a Codex update and quality-of-life enhancements, along with significant parkour improvements and a photo mode update arriving in June. Ubisoft emphasizes that these updates are a direct response to community feedback, demonstrating their commitment to evolving Assassin's Creed Shadows based on player input.

"Your feedback has been a core focus of the team throughout development, and that's not stopping now that Shadows is released," stated community developer Daniel St. Germain in the video. "We're planning regular title updates, each with impactful additions and changes based on your feedback and requests, alongside some bug fixes to continue refining the experience across all platforms."

In June, players can expect another free story drop, along with more challenging difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, an open-world alarm system, and the ability to toggle headgear visibility during cutscenes. These updates aim to enhance player engagement and satisfaction. Further enhancements, including new game+ support, additional story drops, special collaborations, and more, are slated for release later in the year.

The most anticipated addition to the Assassin's Creed Shadows roadmap is the first major DLC expansion, "Claws of Awaji," set to launch at an unspecified date later in 2025. This expansion will introduce new content, including the Bo staff weapon and a new region for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke to explore, promising a 10-hour adventure. Pricing details for "Claws of Awaji" are yet to be disclosed, but it will be available for free to those who pre-ordered the game before its launch last month.

Assassin's Creed Shadows was released on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, bringing Ubisoft's iconic stealth series to the setting of Feudal Japan.
