Zelda: Wind Waker HD Hopes Persist Amid Switch 2 GameCube Rumors
The announcement of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 through the GameCube library has sparked speculation among fans, but it doesn't mean a full port is off the table. Nate Bihldorff, senior vice president of product development at Nintendo of America, clarified this in a discussion with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys. He emphasized that just because a game is available via Nintendo Switch Online doesn't preclude the possibility of a remaster or remake being developed for the newer console.
Despite their popularity, neither The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker nor Twilight Princess have been ported to the original Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2. This has led to concerns among fans, especially since The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, previously ported to the Wii U in 2013, will soon be accessible through Nintendo's premium subscription service upon the Nintendo Switch 2's release on June 5.
During a Q&A session, Bihldorff addressed the possibility of a dedicated port for the Switch 2, stating, "All options are on the table." He pointed out that there are precedents for games available on Nintendo Switch Online also being released in other formats, whether as remakes or the same port version. This suggests that while nothing is confirmed, a port for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to the Switch 2 remains a possibility.
The inclusion of GameCube titles in the Nintendo Switch Online library was revealed during last week's Nintendo Direct presentation. This update will provide subscribers with access to a range of classic titles from the early 2000s, such as F-Zero GX and Soulcalibur 2, all set to launch this summer. Additionally, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker will be part of this initial lineup, with plans to expand the library in the future to include titles like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness.

The addition of these GameCube titles to the Nintendo Switch Online service represents a significant enhancement to its offerings, catering to nostalgia and the demand for classic gaming experiences.
In other news, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date in the United States faced delays due to import tariffs, a situation that also affected Nintendo Canada, leading to further postponements of pre-orders there.
