The Witcher 4: Latest Updates and Rumors
The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the famed Witcher's trilogy concludes. The teaser shows Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a darker storyline than initially perceived.
An official release date remains elusive. Considering the development timelines of The Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait is a reasonable expectation.
While platform specifics are yet to be announced, given the projected timeframe, a current-generation console release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) seems likely. A Switch port, unlike Witcher 3, appears less probable, though a potential Switch 2 version remains a possibility.
Gameplay details are scarce, but the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, combat phrases, and magical Signs. A new addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both combat and magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, potentially as a mentor figure to Ciri. This is further suggested by dialogue snippets featuring Geralt in the trailer.
