Stellar Blade Slated for Epic 2025 PC Debut
Stellar Blade: 2025 PC Release Confirmed – But With a Catch?
Initially a PlayStation exclusive, Stellar Blade is officially coming to PC in 2025! This announcement follows earlier speculation and confirms SHIFT UP's plans to expand the game's reach.
A Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
While the PC release is exciting news, SHIFT UP's connection to Sony as a second-party developer raises concerns. There's a strong possibility that PC players will need to link their Steam accounts to their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts to play. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions without PSN access.
Sony's stated reason for this practice is to ensure the "safe" enjoyment of their live-service games, a justification that's been questioned for its application to single-player titles.
The Growing Trend of PlayStation Exclusives on PC
Stellar Blade's PC port joins a wave of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC, a trend that's broadened the audience for titles like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, the PSN linking requirement is a growing concern within this trend.
Uncertain Future for PC Sales
Whether Stellar Blade will actually require a PSN account for PC remains unclear. Since SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, it's possible this requirement might not be enforced. However, a mandatory PSN link could significantly impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of exceeding console sales.
More to Come
SHIFT UP plans to maintain Stellar Blade's momentum until the PC launch. This includes the upcoming November 20th release of a NieR: Automata collaboration DLC and a much-requested Photo Mode, alongside ongoing marketing efforts. Stay tuned for further updates on the PC release date and PSN account requirements. For now, you can read our review of the game [link to review].
