"Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Still in Development, Developer Confirms"
Saber Interactive has firmly stated that all its previously announced projects are still actively in development, despite the notable lack of updates on high-profile titles like the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake. This reassurance comes directly from Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, following the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
Willits took to Twitter to address fans' concerns, emphasizing that Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers globally. "We are working on numerous games across many different genres," he stated. "Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share."
The most anticipated of these projects remains the KOTOR remake. Announced back in 2021, this eagerly awaited game has undergone multiple development shifts, seemingly stopping and restarting, yet it has not seen the light of day after four years. In April 2024, Saber Interactive's CEO, Matthew Karch, confirmed that the KOTOR project remained with Saber during its split from Embracer Group and that it was still actively being developed. "It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this," Karch affirmed at the time. "It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."
Willits' recent statement, coming nearly a year after Karch's comments, reaffirms the ongoing commitment to the KOTOR remake. However, fans are yet to see any progress beyond the initial announcement video.
Beyond KOTOR, Saber Interactive is also working on several other titles, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival, both slated for release in 2025, though without specific dates. Additionally, Saber is developing a new Turok game and an untitled project related to Avatar: The Last Airbender. With the addition of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 to their roster, Saber's lineup continues to grow.
