Disney's major postponement of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, announced yesterday, extends fans' wait to witness Earth's Mightiest Heroes reunite on the big screen.

Avengers: Doomsday will now debut seven months later on December 18, 2026, followed by Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Amid this rescheduling, discussions have shifted focus to Spider-Man's upcoming appearance.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker is confirmed to return July 31, 2026 in the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, continuing his story after the memory-erasing events of No Way Home.

Originally positioned between both Avengers films, Brand New Day will now premiere before either team-up movie. This change allows the Spider-Man story more narrative freedom, potentially focusing on street-level Marvel adventures rather than multiversal conflicts.

The previous scheduling would have required Brand New Day to either address Doomsday's cliffhangers or awkwardly ignore ongoing events. Now, the standalone Spider-Man film can establish its own storyline without direct Avengers connections.

"This fundamentally alters expectations for Spider-Man 4," commented one Reddit user regarding the revised timeline. "We assumed it needed to bridge the Avengers films chronologically."

Others speculate the schedule shift confirms the film won't feature multiversal elements: "If Brand New Day maintains its release date, it likely won't tie into Battleworld," referencing the comics' Secret Wars setting.

Many fans welcome the opportunity for a grounded Spider-Man story set in New York rather than cosmic Avengers adventures. "Best news possible for Spider-Man 4," one enthusiast wrote, while another noted: "This aligns perfectly with recent casting rumors for street-level villains."

Recent reports indicate Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) has joined the cast, fueling speculation she'll portray Miles Morales' mother. This suggests possible live-action introduction for the popular alternate Spider-Man from Sony's animated films.

Disney's revised schedule also removed a mystery Marvel project set for February 2026, presumed to be the perpetually delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. Other dates previously allocated to Marvel films now simply list "Untitled Disney" projects.

Marvel's upcoming releases include The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025, along with Disney+ series Ironheart and Wonder-Man. 2026 will bring Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, a Punisher special, and the currently filming Vision Quest starring Paul Bettany.
