Sony on PS5 Themes: Mixed Updates

Sony has shared an update regarding the limited-time PlayStation classic console themes for PS5, which currently feature designs inspired by the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The company also addressed the possibility of additional themes coming to the platform.
Classic Themes Temporarily Departing
In an official tweet, Sony confirmed these nostalgic themes will be removed on January 31, 2025, but reassured fans they will return later. The themes, which trigger classic startup sounds when powering on the console, have been popular among PS5 owners.
"We appreciate the tremendous response to our limited-time classic console themes," Sony stated. "Based on this positive feedback, we're working to bring these special designs back in the coming months after some updates."

No Additional Themes Planned
However, Sony delivered disappointing news in a follow-up tweet: "While we currently have no plans to introduce new themes, we remain committed to honoring PlayStation's legacy hardware with our community."
This confirmation of no future themes has upset many fans, especially since the PS5 still lacks the comprehensive theme system available on earlier PlayStation consoles. The statement suggests this functionality won't be added during the current console generation.
The special anniversary themes, released December 3, 2024 to mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary, let users customize their PS5 interface with iconic elements from each console generation - including the original PlayStation's startup screen, PS2's menu graphics, PS3's dynamic wave background, and PS4's signature visual motifs, complete with authentic system sounds.
