Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the popular video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. This exciting film adaptation was announced at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We are pleased to announce that we have begun development on a movie based on our incredibly popular game Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, audiences can anticipate spectacular space battles.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, surpassing 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the project: "We are just starting to work on the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can already promise the audience: this world and its characters will be presented in a cinematic format for the first time.”
